S.A.F.E. ACT
The S.A.F.E. Act requires all Mortgage Lending Officers (MLOs) to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Once registered, each MLO is provided a Unique Identifier from the NMLS. An MLO must provide this Unique Identifier to each mortgage loan applicant upon request and prior to the employee acting as an MLO.

Chelise has dedicated herself for 20 years to helping people own a home, particularly with first-time homebuyers. Chelise has learned over the years that there is no one best way to finance a home. She treats each member as an individual. That’s what brought her to Fortis Edge Capital, whose programs give her the flexibility to provide the right mortgage. She thoroughly prepares applicants for the process, and loves to make the difficult possible – such as the time she managed to secure a loan for a mother unable to work for months due to a child’s illness.
Chelise was born in North Dakota, where her dad was a major at Grand Forks AFB, but grew up in Renton. She thinks the best thing about Seattle is its people and their diversity, which lets her learn about different cultures and backgrounds. Her travels have brought her to Disneyland and Disneyworld – she says, “I turn into a little kid at those places” (which might have to do with how much time she spends with her young nieces and nephews).

Matt Barber

Matt is a transplant, originally from Charleston, South Carolina. However, Matt, his wife, and three children moved here in 2015 for all the reasons we love it here – so much to do in town and nearby, the San Juans and Eastern Washington, camping and hiking and the local parks. Matt’s also a basketball fan (he regrets arriving after the Sonics left!), which helps Matt keep his eye on the mortgage ball.
When the housing bubble of 2007 and 2008 burst, it crystallized how large Matt’s role as a mortgage representative is. He focuses on making sure that his customers get the right mortgage decision, which Matt says is just as important as a fast mortgage decision. Matt especially enjoys that he can do that for everyone from an office professional to a laborer, from those needing to refinance or obtain a second mortgage to people buying their first home – like the refinance he recently did for the widow of a 50-year Seattle police veteran. That’s straight out of the credit union philosophy of doing the right thing for members.

Heather never imagined she’d pursue a career in finance. As a child, she told people that she would become a teacher. Her first job as a teller changed all of that. Now, she’s an equity loan officer with over ten years of experience in the banking industry. And while she may not spend her days in a classroom, she relishes the opportunity to teach members about their financial situation and the products and services that will help them meet their financial goals. Specifically, Heather helps members access the equity they have in their home and put it to use, whether it’s a home improvement, paying for school expenses, consolidating debt, and more. She is a trusted resource for members and wants each one of them to reach and maintain financial stability unique to their needs and goals. Frank Elizondo-Alcala was born in Mexico City, raised in Chicago and Houston, and lived in Portland, OR, before moving to Seattle.
Frank has been an entrepreneur most of his life until he drank the credit union Kool-Aid and became aware of the tremendous benefit of being a credit union member. He previously worked as a Business Development Officer for a local credit union, where he developed lending programs and strategies to help some of the most underserved residents of his community. At Fortis Edge Capital, he hopes to expand our lending programs to the entire state, with emphasis on minority and underserved communities.
In his free time, Frank enjoys the company of his 8-year-old Lassa named “Daddy,” restoring his Catalina 30 sailboat and hot yoga.

Jen Rizor

Work your way to the top and you learn everything. At least that’s the case for Jen, who started as a teller, but has since served as a home equity processor, mortgage processor, and underwriter. That’s a lot of years looking at detailed paperwork, learning the tricks that help get the best mortgage possible for the Fortis Edge Capital members with whom she works.
Jen finds that matching a member to a mortgage requires the ability to think in a structured way… and yet outside the box. Ask her about her time performing improv and playing games and she might admit what makes her good at one makes her good at the other.
The unique cooperative nature of a credit union also appeals to Jen, who says, “I like that the credit union helps the community, and I think it’s important for us to help others prosper.”
The best part is connecting the dots and helping someone reach a goal. A favorite recent call came from retirees who were excited about seeing whales from the deck of their retirement home. Jen was thrilled that her work made it possible.
